Dubai planning the world's biggest shopping mall
CBS News
Dubai is already home to the biggest shopping mall in the world, but that apparently isn't enough. The emirate is planning an even bigger mall, one so massive it's already being described as a temperature-controlled city. It's going to be called Mall of the World, and will stretch for 48 million square feet.

Retailing Today
It is one of the smaller acquisitions CVS Caremark has done, but the purchase of the 33-unit Miami-based Navarro Discount Pharmacy could have big implications. CVS Caremark said it reached an agreement with Navarro, the largest Hispanic owned drugstore chain in the U.S., to acquire 33 stores and Navarro Health Services, a specialty pharmacy serving patients with complex or chronic diseases. Composting toilets —The next sustainable frontier
Buildings
Most facility managers wouldn’t bat an eye at installing low-flow fixtures, irrigation controls, or rainwater harvesting to conserve water. Finding the balance
Facility Management Journal
Many organizations focus their attention on lowering costs within the small percentage of their budget dedicated to custodial products. However, lower product pricing alone will not solve a facility's biggest challenge today: driving increased efficiency and productivity in the people charged with cleaning their facilities. To maximize productivity with available labor in a facility, the focus should be on implementing the right products and processes necessary to increase efficiency.

Supervalu sees its future in wholesale, not grocery stores
Pioneer Press
Supervalu didn't buy Rainbow stores in the Twin Cities because it wanted more supermarkets. It wanted the business of being their supplier, Supervalu CEO Sam Duncan said. "That transaction we strictly did as a wholesale play," Duncan told shareholders at Supervalu's annual meeting. "That is it. We wanted that business as our wholesale customer."

Efficient buildings to be 100 percent sensed
EE Times
The buildings we work and live in will in the near future be all-knowing — or at least, all-sensing. Buildings and industrial plants in the United States now consume roughly 50 percent of the nation's energy, which is wholly inefficient by today's standards. Updated automation and sensing technology, however, can improve that inefficiency by at least 20 percent by the year 2020.

Whether it’s voice messages, text messages, or email, detailed messages can be sent quickly and repeatedly to help ensure that everyone is aware of what is happening and what they should do. But, one key to making sure those messages are helpful is understanding that information is only helpful if it can be clearly understood.
