Target announces LEED certification for all store locations opened across Canada in 2013

Target has announced that all 124 store locations that opened across Canada in 2013 have been awarded Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design certification. Previously, Target announced certification of the first 68 stores and with the announcement the remaining 56 stores that opened in 2013 are now LEED certified. "This past year marked a major milestone for Target as we delivered on the unprecedented goal of opening 124 stores across ten provinces," stated Mark Schindele, president, Target Canada.

Macy's reports new steps to enhance sustainability

Macy's Inc. has unveiled a series of new initiatives in its multi-year plan to enhance environmental sustainability, including the use of solar power and LED lighting, and plans to reduce packaging waste. Full of cold air: The potential of cryogenics and liquid air

The U.K. Institution of Mechanical Engineers recently concluded that one of the most promising technologies for improving the cold chain of developing countries was cryogenics using liquid nitrogen or "liquid air." Liquid air is attractive as it offers the dual benefit of being able to provide refrigeration and to provide energy — thereby proving a beneficial technology to those regions where electricity supplies are intermittent or where diesel generation is expensive.

The mall, which is an American post World War Two phenomenon, has been moribund in this millennium with construction falling from 25 million gross square feet in 2001 to less than four million gross square feet annually for the last few years. National Retail Federation
Retail sales (excluding automobiles, gas stations and restaurants) are expected to advance at a stronger pace for the balance of this year than the previous six months, and should equal or exceed 3.9 percent, compared with the 2.9 percent reported for the first half of 2014.
