Green buildings are healthy buildings, according to Dr. Joseph Allen and fellow researchers of the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health at Harvard University. The group conducted the first comprehensive review of studies that focused on green buildings and summarized the health benefits for the people who work and live in them.

Stein Mart keeps steady growth going

Off-price shop Stein Mart's strategy of just the right product, at just the right price, at just the right time seems to be working as the retailer reported another quarterly increase in same store sales. Stein Mart Inc. reported rising total sales in the second quarter ended Aug. 1. Total sales for the quarter rose 4 percent to $311.6 million, from $298.1 million. Same store sales for the quarter rose 3 percent.

Companies buy, vow to modernize 'ghost town' Ledgewood Mall in New Jersey

Earlier this year when Macy's announced plans to close its location at the Ledgewood Mall in Roxbury, New Jersey, it was the latest blow to the 43-year-old shopping center, which has seen several retail vacancies over the last decade. But a joint venture was announced among three companies to acquire the mall in order "to modernize the property and ensure its future," said Peter Cocoziello, president of Advance Realty.

Luxury retailer Neiman Marcus files for IPO valued at $100 million

Luxury retailer Neiman Marcus has filed for an initial public offering for the second time in a little more than two years. For the purpose of calculating a filing fee, Neiman Marcus said it expects to raise $100 million from the offering.

Why Kors shares are soaring 11 percent

Shares of Michael Kors jumped 11 percent, after the handbag maker reported what one analyst referred to as "better-than-feared" results.
