Target surpasses 1,000 Energy Star certified stores
Green Retail Decisions
Target has surpassed the milestone of 1,000 Energy Star certified stores, making it the retailer with the most certified stores in the United States. The company is on track to meet its goal of earning Energy Star status for at least 75 percent of its U.S. buildings by the end of fiscal year 2015, the company said in a statement.

Stein Mart opening 6 new stores this fall

Stein Mart announced that it will open six new stores this fall as part of its biggest expansion since 2007. The Jacksonville, Florida-based department store chain will open stores in Clovis, California, this month; Albuquerque, New Mexico, Citrus Heights, California, and Gainesville, Virginia, in October; Carlsbad, California, in November and Delray Beach, Florida, in December.

Dollar General's planned hostile bid for Family Dollar roils retail waters
The New York Times
The three-way tug of war being hashed out in the discount retail industry just got a little bit more contentious. Dollar General said it was going hostile and taking its $9.1 billion offer for Family Dollar directly to shareholders after being rebuffed. The move further complicates Family Dollar's agreed-upon deal, announced in July, to sell itself to Dollar Tree for $8.5 billion.

Fort Collins, Colorado, shopping center sells for $128 million
The Coloradoan
The $128.3 million sale of Front Range Village in Fort Collins, Colorado, could portend new investment and expansion of the 6-year-old shopping center anchored by SuperTarget, Lowe's, Staples and other big-box and specialty stores. Michigan-based real estate investment trust Ramco-Gershenson Properties Trust announced it had purchased the 810,000-square-foot center from Bayer Properties of Birmingham, Alabama.

Rent the Runway to open store in Georgetown
The Washington Post
Rent the Runway, the designer wear rental company, will open a standalone location in Georgetown this fall. The Washington, D.C., store is scheduled to open in mid-November in Cady's Alley, the mini shopping district, according to EastBanc and Jamestown, which brokered the deal. The 4,354-square-foot freestanding store will be the company’s second.

Study finds retailers cautiously optimistic about 2014 holiday sales
