Walmart buying into wind facility to power Texas stores
Green Retail Decisions
Walmart will purchase 58 percent of the expected energy output from a new wind farm in Comanche County, Texas, when the facility is completed and operational, according to Fortune magazine. The energy purchase from Pattern Energy Group’s 200 megawatt Logan's Gap Wind facility, located 150 miles from Dallas, will cover more than a quarter of Walmart's electricity needs in the deregulated parts of Texas and serve 380 stores or nearly a tenth of the retailer’s U.S. fleet.

Look, listen, and learn to find leaks
Facility Executive

The U.S. Government Accountability Office recently found that 40 out of 50 state water managers expected shortages in some portion of their states in the next decade. The cost of water is also up; water and sewer rates increased 8.5 percent from 2013 to 2014. With water scarcity and prices on the rise, facility management leaders face the challenge of reducing water waste to conserve this limited resource while controlling costs.

The tie between cyber security and energy management
Energy Manager Today
A feature at Chain Store Age makes the point that corporate security and energy management initiatives and technology have a lot in common and can be implemented in tandem. New software that uses private or public/private hybrid clouds to support energy management and security software can simultaneously increase data safety and “significantly” cut energy costs. The writer cites the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers for that insight.
