JCPenney earns Energy Star Certification at 500-plus locations
Green Retail Decisions
Plano, Texas-based JCPenney has secured Energy Star certifications in more than 500 stores, one supply chain facility and its office headquarters, far surpassing its goal of having 400 locations certified by the end of 2013. The Environmental Protection Agency awards Energy Star certifications to buildings that rank within the top 25 percent of similar commercial buildings nationwide by meeting strict energy performance levels set by the EPA.

Starbucks gets ready to go from tall to venti in China

Kmart is planning to roll out lease-to-own financing at stores nationwide ahead of the holiday season. The retailer began testing the program in mid-October and plans to make it available in all stores by Nov. 22.

J Crew, the preppy U.S.clothing retailer favored by Michelle Obama, is looking to open at least three more stores in London after launching its flagship. Internet kills the video store
The New York Times
Blockbuster, which had more than 9,000 retail stores across America just nine years ago, is closing the few hundred video-rental stores that it still has, the company's owner, Dish Network, said in a bittersweet but long-expected announcement. Dish, which acquired Blockbuster through a bankruptcy auction in 2011, after the retailer had already been crushed by digital video distributors like Netflix, said it still saw value in the brand name and would use it in limited ways.
