Plus, 70 percent of its online traffic Thanksgiving weekend came from mobile devices, a highly desirable customer segment.

High-performance roofing strategies
FacilitiesNet
Expert roof consultant John D'Annunzio of Paragon Roofing Technology explains that due to increased requirements for reflectivity and emissivity, both in required energy and building codes and in voluntary green building rating systems, many manufacturers are stepping up their efforts to develop products that conform. One example of that is modified bitumen manufacturers that are developing new cap sheets with factory-applied reflective coatings, says D'Annunzio.

Saks: How we rang up $500,000 in energy savings
GreenBiz
Not that long ago, "sustainability" was a dirty word for retailers who were on a ceaseless mission to keep fixed costs as low as possible in order to make a profit on items that already carry a small margin. The idea of making operations "more sustainable" filled the minds of retail executives around the world with nightmares of endless spending with nebulous returns. However, over the past 10 years, public demand for change combined with government incentives and energy efficient technology slowly have led to profitable operations also becoming sustainable ones.

What American shopping malls looked like in 1989
Mashable
In 1989, Michael Galinsky, then a 20-year-old student, took a month to traverse the U.S. Everywhere he went, he documented the same place: the shopping mall. The results are now an archive of a vanished world, simultaneously familiar and foreign, trivial and full of meaning. These pictures are taken from Michael's book, Malls Across America.

Researchers develop building material that cools by reflecting heat into space
UPI
Researchers at Stanford say they've developed a material that cools itself by beaming excess heat into space; they hope it can one day be used to keep buildings cool on hot, sunny days. Traditional ideas about thermodynamics suggest an object like a building can't be cooled below the temperature of the surrounding ambient air without the assistance of a something like air conditioning. Two objects — side by side, one hot and one cold — will eventually even their relative temperatures, the excess heat of one radiates to the other until equilibrium is met.
