Facility managers are among the passionate, progressive executives setting the sustainability agenda
FacilitiesNet    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Sustainability has moved into the corner office. No longer the pet project of a single-minded, pie-eyed soul, sustainability — everything from resource efficiency to greenhouse gas reductions — has migrated from a "nice-to-have" proposition to an organizational imperative. As a result, many organizations, with the idea that a top-down approach is most effective, are hiring sustainability executives with titles like chief sustainability officer and vice president of sustainability to head up those efforts. Blockbuster said to sell smartphones at its retail stores
CNET    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
When DVD rentals don't work, maybe sell — mobile phones? Rumor has it that Blockbuster is getting into the phone hawking business at its retail stores, according to Bloomberg. What seems like a random choice might actually be a conscientious maneuver by Dish Network, which bought the struggling movie rental chain last year. Dish is primarily a provider of satellite-TV service, but over the past year it's been making moves to get into the wireless business. More

Behavioral change: A building and its operations are only as sustainable as those who use them
EDC Magazine    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Relative to reducing energy consumption, we could define behavioral change as: A purposeful modification of an individual's or group's previous mode of operation/action. When it comes to reducing consumption related to energy, transportation and water, what is the impact of the individual person in the outcome? Is there enough information to support the concept of behavioral change as a quantifiable — and therefore measurable — component of available energy efficiency strategies? More
