Reuters    Share   Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
An influential retail trade group raised its forecast for U.S. holiday retail sales, citing strong results in November and expectations that consumers still have more shopping to do. The National Retail Federation said it now expects holiday sales to rise 3.8 percent to a record $469.1 billion. That is up from the group's October forecast, which called for growth of 2.8 percent. The new forecast is still lower than the 5.2 percent growth seen last year, but is above the 10-year average increase of 2.6 percent. More

Retail sales are helping economy grow consistently
The Associated Press via Google News    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Economic growth is picking up in the final three months of the year, fueled by higher consumer spending, rising business stockpiles and modest increases in hiring. The start of the holiday shopping season in November helped produce the sixth straight monthly increase in retail sales. Gift-buying Americans spent more on clothing and electronics, and sales of autos and furniture also rose. Job openings declined slightly in October. But they were still at the second-highest level in three years. More
