Rising flour prices press Chuck Colarusso to consider extreme measures. "Our bread prices have gone up tremendously," said Mr. Colarusso, owner of Colarusso's Cafe in Jessup and Colarusso's Coal Fired Pizza in Dickson City, Pa. "We're at the point where we are going to start to bake our own bread." Flour prices have escalated drastically since mid-March, as wheat futures have advanced almost 20 percent because of flooding in the upper Plains states. More

Three photos hang on a wall of Radford Bakery in Salisbury, Md.: The family's three generations of bakers, reaching back to 1932, whose recipes line the display cases in the shop that opened just two weeks ago. Radford's Bakery might not have been sitting on the corner of Route 13 and Naylor Street for decades, but there are almost 70 years of tradition behind it. "He kind of surprised me with it when he first mentioned it," said Cathy Stoup. "I wasn't shocked because he had talked about it before. It was better than see him sit around and get frustrated."
