HHS finalizes ICD-10 deadline delay

The Department of Health and Human Services is making it official. It will delay for one year the implementation of ICD-10 code sets that classify medical diagnoses and procedures. The final rule delays ICD-10 implementation to Oct. 1, 2014, from Oct. 1, 2013.More

CMS releases final rule for stage 2 meaningful use

The U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services has released its final rule for stage 2 meaningful use, which now includes the viewing of medical images as a menu item in the U.S. government's healthcare IT stimulus program. The final rule was published in the Aug. 23 edition of the Federal Register. It follows up on the proposed stage 2 rule released by CMS in February, which contrary to expectations included provisions for medical imaging. More

CBO lowers healthcare spending estimates
Health Imaging
The Congressional Budget Office has lowered its healthcare spending estimates for 2013 to 2022. An Aug. 22 report projects Medicaid and Medicare spending will be $494 billion less than a March estimate had predicted. The June 28 Supreme Court decision to make the Medicaid expansion provision of the Patient Protection and Affordable voluntary rather than mandatory played the biggest factor in the downward revisions.
