Virtual Radiologic, a technology-enabled national radiology practice, partnered with the RBMA to provide RBMA members additional educational opportunities within the field of radiology.

vRad will award a $1,500 scholarship to RBMA members who have not attended an RBMA conference. The scholarships will cover registration fees and other costs qualified applicants incur for attending the meeting. Applicants must have been an RBMA member for at least two years.

vRad and RBMA are pleased to announce that a scholarship has been awarded to Jane Schappell, coding and compliance officer for Progressive Physician Associates in Easton, Pa.

Schappell will attend the RBMA Radiology Coding Mechanics Course and the RBMA Radiology Coding Exam Review Course on Jan. 25-26, 2012, in Irving, Texas.

Male radiologists are more likely to be sued than female radiologists, while those from Utah have the highest likelihood of being subjected to a malpractice claim of any U.S. state, according to a study presented at the recent RSNA 2011 meeting. Researchers at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey found that the chance of a male radiologist being sued by the age of 60 was 50 percent, compared with 40 percent for female radiologists. Insurance companies spent millions of dollars trying to defeat the U.S. healthcare overhaul, saying it would raise costs and disrupt coverage. Instead, profit margins at the companies widened to levels not seen since before the recession, a Bloomberg Government study shows.
