Apply for a scholarship to attend the Radiology Summit* FREE

RBMA is offering two different scholarships to use toward the Radiology Summit. The scholarships cover registration fees, travel and hotel.

The Bob Luther Emerging Leader Travel Scholarship was created to give RBMA members who are first time practice managers or those interested in becoming a practice manager a chance to experience the value of RBMA. Applications will be accepted until Feb. 28.

The vRAD Education Scholarship is awarded to an individual who has not attended an RBMA conference or seminar in the past three years. Applications will be accepted until Feb. 28.

*Recipient of the Bob Luther Emerging Leader Travel Scholarship can choose to attend either the Radiology Summit or Fall Educational Conference.

Stage 2 meaningful use readiness a growing concern

A survey recently released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found there has been tremendous growth in electronic health record use in the U.S. over the past several years, thanks in part to the meaningful use incentive program. But there may be a speed bump in the road to a connected healthcare system as the meaningful use program enters its second stage. The survey found the number of office-based physicians with some type of EHR system grew from 18 percent in 2001 to 78 percent in 2013. But just 13 percent had systems capable of meeting at least 14 of the 17 core objectives required for Stage 2 of the three-stage program.

Physician EHR adoption leaps 21 percent in 2013

Adoption of basic electronic health record systems by office-based physicians increased 21 percent from 2012 to 2013, according to an issue brief from the National Center for Health Statistics, a unit of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Last year, 48.1 percent of physicians had basic EHRs, versus 39.6 percent in 2012.

MedPAC recommends equalizing many HOPPS and MPFS charges

The Medicare Payment Advisory Commission has voted unanimously to reduce or eliminate discrepancies in what Medicare pays for services done in hospital outpatient departments versus physician offices and ambulatory surgery centers. Hospital networks have been expanding into outpatient services and the American Hospital Association expressed its concern after the vote in an AHA News Now article.
