2012 Imaging Center Survey coming soon!
RBMA    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
The Imaging Center Survey collects demographic information; data on charges and collections; number of imaging machines, technologists, CPT codes and RVUs billed by modality; and imaging center expenses by category. The survey should take no more than three hours to complete.

New this year:
  • Data on charges and collections will be preloaded in the 2012 Accounts Receivable Performance Survey (A/R Survey) at your request, making it easy to participate in both surveys.
  • Procedure volume will be collected in an uploaded file by individual CPT code and modifier; numbers of CPT codes and RVUs by modality will be calculated for you.
  • Imaging center expenses will be collected and reported by modality to improve the comparability of results. If you are unable to provide expenses by modality, provide overall expenses and they will be allocated for you.
Watch for details!

Imaging Biz    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
The American Medical Association urged Congress to postpone the scheduled change to ICD-10 codes in 2013. The ICD-10 codes are supposed to be in use by 2013 as part of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act. Most of the world has already switched to the new set of codes. However, the AMA warns that U.S. doctors are ill-prepared at this point to switch to ICD-10. More

Strategies for exclusive contracting
Aunt Minnie (registration required)    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
In these turbulent times for the business of radiology groups, in which the pace of — to use Joseph Schumpeter's term — creative destruction is quickening, it is more important than ever to strategically approach the way in which exclusive contracting and group structure and functions are intertwined. To simply keep on keeping on with a pure focus on patient care, thinking business success, or even business survival, will follow, is folly. More

Report: Electronic health records still need work
CBS News    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
America may be a technology-driven nation, but the healthcare system's conversion from paper to computerized records needs a lot of work to get the bugs out, according to experts who spent months studying the issue. Hospitals and doctors' offices increasingly are going digital, the Bipartisan Policy Center says in a recent report. But there's been little progress getting the computer systems to talk to one another, exchanging data the way financial companies do. More

When health plans go high deductible
The Washington Post (blog)    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
As health costs rise, employers are increasingly turning to high-deductible health plans: Insurance coverage that usually pairs catastrophic coverage with a health savings account, leaving consumers to decide what to spend that account on. The goal is to give consumers more incentives to not spend on the care they don't need, but these plans often raise concerns that subscribers will cut back on the care that they do need, too. More

Report: US imaging market lags behind new techs, emerging markets
Health Imaging    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
The diagnostic imaging market will be marked by an expansion of hybrid modality technology, the growth of imaging in emerging markets and negative growth due to reimbursement cuts in the U.S., according to a report by GBI Research. According to the report, "Diagnostic Imaging Market to 2017: Fusion Technology to Increase Adoption Rates of Hybrid Imaging Systems," the trend of fusing two different modalities will continue to evolve and will be a mainstay of imaging in the future. How to brand your radiology practice
Diagnostic Imaging    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Branding is something we historically do little of in medicine. We generally don't sell ourselves. Our skill and rapport are expected to do that. But in an environment where competition is increasing, branding your practice can be very useful. There are a number of simple ways to create this brand that are unique to radiology. More
