  Billing Program Issues?

The regulatory, administrative and financial challenges radiology practices face are more complex than ever. In-house billing programs often lack the expertise to address new mandates; are expensive to staff, train and maintain. Also, many local, regional and national billing companies don't have the internal resources, technology and capabilities to operate independently in today's environment.

Participate in RBMA's mini-Survey: MPPR - Professional Component
RBMA
In 2012 the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services applied a 25 percent multiple procedure payment reduction discount to the professional component of select imaging services performed during the same session. CMS did not explicitly define "same session." In 2013, CMS expanded the MPPR-PC to apply to services provided by any physician in the same group practice.

This mini-Survey collects information on the impact the MPPR-PC has had on radiology practices and how practices are defining "same" vs. "different" sessions.

Completion of the mini-Survey should require no more than five minutes of your time. The mini-Survey will be open for participation until March 8.

Please click here to access the mini-Survey.

Health information exchange proving difficult to implement
By Kent McAllister
Information exchange has taken place over many millennia. This is a simple concept that requires context to gain meaning. A recent context that has received much focus has been health information exchange. As we have battled to improve healthcare for our nation’s citizens, we universally accept that the exchange of a patient’s health information across relevant stakeholders is critical to realizing the elusive improvements in healthcare we all seek. This concept is still simple, but hundreds of attempts to accomplish meaningful health information exchange have struggled to produce desired outcomes, i.e., improved healthcare.

Some research on repeat imaging may overestimate waste
Imaging Biz
Waste due to needless duplication of health care services and tests is gaining increasing attention by health care policy makers and payors. But what exactly is waste and what is necessary and medically appropriate is not always easy to determine in large population studies that rely on administrative claim data to note cases of repeat testing and services.
