New Assets Designed to Speed You Up Just Slowing You Down?
ASPYRA, LLC
Struggles to climb the learning curve can cost more than training. Imagine correcting each exam record for a patient when you could have changed it in one place and have it corrected on all the records if you just knew where to go. Every business has personnel, equipment, and system changes over time. Such "turnover" often leaves you with limited personnel who know how to make the most effective use of your resources. How do you keep productivity high and expenses low? Look for training options such as Web based training, webinars, on-site training, and full classes.

NEWS FOR BILLING MANAGERS

What's next for low-dose CT lung cancer screening reimbursement
RBMA
Radiology businesses that provide low-dose CT screening for lung cancer to privately insured patients were understandably excited to learn of the long awaited final Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services national coverage decision memo outlining the parameters for Medicare beneficiary coverage of the test. However, the government saying it will pay for a test is not the same as it actually accepting claims for it.

Efficiencies gained through tight integration save radiologists 75 minutes per day
Imaging Biz
Michael Trambert, MD, had long suspected the workflow reporting automation made possible by the tightly integrated PACS/RIS/VR solution used by the Santa Barbara Radiology Medical Group was saving him about an hour each day. A two-pronged study presented at the recent meeting of the RSNA confirmed that the conjectured efficiencies were even greater than he thought — adding up to 75 minutes per day.

By David B. Mandell, JD, MBA, and Carole Foos, CPA

HealthLeaders Media
The effect of the push and pull of healthcare reform is manifested in the industry's continuing appetite for consolidation and partnerships. Physicians Practice (registration required)
Dawn Morton-Rias, president and CEO of the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants, emphasizes, "Patients have choices; they return to a practice because of relationships. Patients demand not just well-trained professionals, but people they can relate to.
