  Billing Program Issues?

The regulatory, administrative and financial challenges radiology practices face are more complex than ever. In-house billing programs often lack the expertise to address new mandates; are expensive to staff, train and maintain. Also, many local, regional and national billing companies don't have the internal resources, technology and capabilities to operate independently in today's environment.

How to get a good deal in payor contract negotiations
Aunt Minnie (registration required)
It's no secret that what radiologists want to do most is practice medicine. It's why they get into radiology in the first place. So, when it comes to billing issues and negotiating contracts with commercial insurance payors, it's no surprise they typically don't want to get involved. Most radiologists just want to know that things are working correctly and they have fair deals in place that pay them the money they have earned.

Information exchange has taken place over many millennia. This is a simple concept that requires context to gain meaning. A recent context that has received much focus has been health information exchange. As we have battled to improve healthcare for our nation's citizens, we universally accept that the exchange of a patient's health information across relevant stakeholders is critical to realizing the elusive improvements in healthcare we all seek.

Friday is the last day to participate in RBMA's mini-Survey: MPPR — Professional Component
RBMA
In 2012, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services applied a 25 percent multiple procedure payment reduction to the professional component of select imaging services performed during the same session. CMS did not explicitly define "same session." In 2013, CMS expanded the MPPR-PC to apply to services provided by any physician in the same group practice.

This mini-Survey collects information on the impact the MPPR-PC has had on radiology practices and how practices are defining "same" vs. "different" sessions.

Completion of the mini-Survey should require no more than five minutes of your time. The mini-Survey will be open for participation until March 8.

Please click here to access the mini-Survey.

Can the Cleveland Clinic save American healthcare?
The Daily Beast
"The best doctors are not motivated by money." It's a common sentiment. We all seem to believe it. And yet, we don't act on it. When we get sick, we don't head straight for the nearest county charitable hospital; we head for the biggest, shiniest facility we can find, one where the doctor's parking lot is full of luxury automobiles.

Solving the image-sharing dilemma
Imaging Biz
The deftness of data movement between sites creates a deception that it's easy; it's not. Leaving aside technical problems with integration, servers and storage, the more central problem might be this: Who pays the bill to set image exchange in motion? In the case of image exchange, especially as part of an electronic health record network, who pays hasn't been determined.

Talking to a wall? Patients push back on cost-effectiveness
Health Imaging
Physicians who introduce the topic of cost into discussions with their patients may find it resembles talking to the proverbial wall. Focus group findings show that public attitudes about healthcare costs must shift significantly for cost to be an explicit factor in clinical decisions, according to an article published in the February issue of Health Affairs.
