Variation in a plug and play world
ASPYRA, LLC
Do standards mean your systems and equipment should be "plug and play?" Not necessarily. Standards are recommended practices and formats – they make communication between organizations and systems easier and faster, but there is no legal penalty for a company that chooses not to follow them. DICOM and HL7 are examples of healthcare communications standards for systems and equipment. HL7 (Health Level 7) is an industry standard dealing with the interchange of healthcare data between systems in a healthcare enterprise.

Survey: HHS regulations are squeezing health IT professionals
By Scott E. Rupp
New research suggests that the regulatory demands imposed by the Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) are likely having a negative impact on health IT professionals. As many as 60 percent of polled healthcare IT professionals feel that government regulations are leading to the decline of their industry. Thanks to redundancies, system glitches present minor interruptions to radiologist workflow
Heatlh Exec

To meet these challenges, enterprises often create complex IT informatics infrastructures that can aggregate cases from multiple sites and distribute them to geographically dispersed radiologists.
