Although it is generally a good idea to invest in a formal marketing plan, well-designed collateral materials, and a plan for ongoing relationship management, it is also important to recognize the funds' limitation for these types of activities. If a radiology practice wants to embark on some limited marketing, particularly relationship management, valuable information in existing systems allows it to pursue such endeavors.

MedPAC takes long view despite 1 percent drop in imaging volume

There was a 1 percent drop in imaging volume per Medicare beneficiary between 2012 and 2013, according to new figures released by the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission. But despite the decline, MedPAC is pointing out that the use of imaging services remains higher than it was a decade ago. "The growth in use of imaging and tests has led to concerns about appropriate use of these services," MedPAC wrote in its March report to Congress.

Medicare's new ACO model aims to smooth cash flow
