DataMAXX — Did you know? A/R Survey deadline is this Friday
RBMA
The extended deadline for practices and billing companies/MSOs to submit accounts receivable data is this Friday. To participate, simply complete the Excel® questionnaire and email it to RBMA — no need to subscribe to DataMAXX, upload data or run report queries.

When the data have been cleaned, RBMA will provide participants from both practices and billing companies/MSOs with a free official report (a $500 value) that includes results as of the survey due date. The report will have a column to enter your practice's indicator values, calculated in the Excel file, for easy comparison with overall results. Data submitted after the official reporting date will be available for reporting through DataMAXX.

We rely on our members to provide the data used to calculate the A/R indicator statistics; we can't do it without you. Please help us continue to provide trusted, dependable benchmarks by contributing your practice's or billing clients' A/R data. Data are confidential, and results are released only in aggregated form.

Click here or contact cynthia.vervena@rbma.org for more information.

New Assets Designed to Speed You Up Just Slowing You Down?
ASPYRA, LLC
Struggles to climb the learning curve can cost more than training. Imagine correcting each exam record for a patient when you could have changed it in one place and have it corrected on all the records if you just knew where to go. Every business has personnel, equipment, and system changes over time. Such "turnover" often leaves you with limited personnel who know how to make the most effective use of your resources. How do you keep productivity high and expenses low? Look for training options such as Web based training, webinars, on-site training, and full classes.

Watch out for hotel scams when reserving your room for the Radiology Summit or Fall Educational Conference
RBMA
Please be aware that there are bogus companies who may call you and try to solicit hotel reservations at the conference hotels at a discount rate. These companies almost always demand full pre-payment at the time of booking. They send you a bogus confirmation letter, charge your card, and then you show up at the hotel and discover you have no room reserved under your name. RBMA is powerless to help because the reservation wasn't made through us.

Please note we are not working with any outside companies. Using the hotel code that RBMA provides in the registration confirmation letter is the only way to book and be guaranteed a room within the specially priced RBMA room block.

This session will address the positives and negatives, including rules for health insurance exchanges, Medicaid expansion and creative Medicaid coverage by state, and strategies for groups as they take on increased hospital volumes and self-pay patient populations.

Panacea
In this white paper, Panacea radiology consultants draw from their in-depth and long-term experience — but not official CMS guidance — to offer radiology providers scenarios where multiple procedures might be done on the same patient on the same date of service. Such occasions would prompt use of the new X modifiers.

Even as EHR proficiency rises, enthusiasm dips
Healthcare IT News
Doctors have become better at using electronic health records software in the last two years but, fewer physicians believe EHRs actually improve care. Whereas 62 percent of doctors in 2012 believed their EHR helped improve patient care, only 46 percent answered the same way in 2015, according to research that Accenture published on Monday.

Accepting that credit card could cost you, rad practice
Imaging Biz
The American Medical Association is warning medical practices to beware private payors bearing virtual credit cards. The "convenient" payment method is increasingly being used to conceal hefty — and avoidable — fees. Doctors who accept the VCCs, which the insurers send them in lieu of paper checks or standard electronic funds transfer info, typically shell out 3 percent to 5 percent of the payment they're receiving, according to an April 8 AMA Wire post.

CMS provides questionable coding 'advice' for DBT studies
Aunt Minnie (registration required)
Revisions to 2015 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule payment policies include a surprising billing guideline from the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services related to digital breast tomosynthesis. Agency representatives announced this change to the American College of Radiology during a Dec. 14 phone call, and it was so surprising that the ACR staff person requested the directive be put in writing "because of concern that this advice would expose our members to allegations of fraud and abuse."

CMS actuary questions long-term impact of SGR repeal bill
Health Imaging
When a bill to permanently repeal and replace the Medicare sustainable growth rate easily passed the U.S. House late last month, it seemed like legislators were closer than ever to fixing the yearly threat to physician pay. As another deadline looms for the Senate, however, a report from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services' Office of the Actuary is pointing out the limits of the bill.

Population health and the revenue cycle
HealthLeaders Media
Most hospitals and health systems still operate mainly in a fee-for-service environment, but payment reform is on the horizon. As the healthcare industry evolves toward risk-based reimbursement structures and clinical protocols designed around population health management models, the role of the revenue cycle is changing as well.
