The 2014 Radiology Summit opened on Sunday evening with the Grand Opening of the Exhibit Hall sponsored by Imagine Software at the Westin Charlotte in Charlotte, N.C. Centered around a race car theme, many exhibiting companies, including our sponsor, engaged attendees in activities relating to racing.

Educational sessions began on Monday morning after a welcome from RBMA Board of Directors president Wendy Lomers, CPA, and will continue through Wednesday, May 7.

Corporate members! Update your Buyers Guide listing!

All RBMA corporate members who provide a product or service to radiology practices may be listed in the July/August 2014 Buyers Guide issue of the RBMA Bulletin FREE. This issue will include informative articles on technology, plus the added value of listing industry vendors.

The issue will be mailed to over 2,100 RBMA members who will keep it on their shelf for future reference or pass it along to other decision makers.

The deadline to update your company profile and category listings is May 15.

Any corporate member can update their company record by editing their company profile here and updating the last two tabs, "Corporate Listing" and "Buyers Guide Listing."

NEWS FOR BILLING MANAGERS


Dose is becoming a reimbursement issue
RBMA
Mixed news for radiology billing managers: the House and Senate have passed the "Protecting Access to Medicare Act of 2014," which, among other provisions, delays the 24 percent Medicare reimbursement cut for another year, replacing it with a 0.5 percent increase. The president is expected to sign the bill into law as-is.

Radiologists hit hard by CT code bundling
Aunt Minnie (registration required)
When reimbursement codes for CT of the abdomen and pelvis were bundled in 2011, there was a dramatic 29 percent reduction in imaging payments for these procedures, according to a study in the May issue of the American Journal of Roentgenology. Radiologists were the most affected.

Meaningful use: Getting patient buy-in to meet portal requirements
Physicians Practice (registration required)
One of the core objectives of the Stage 2 rules of meaningful use requires that more than 5 percent of your patients interact with your patient portal by viewing, downloading or sharing their information with a third party. Many physicians nationwide are stressing over this one requirement, as making the portal available is one thing, getting patients to actually use it is another. While it won't be easy to meet this requirement, it may not be as hard as it seems.

Code bundling for CT of the abdomen, pelvis significantly reduces imaging reimbursements
Health Imaging
Medicare code bundling of CT of the abdomen and pelvis results in a large reduction in reimbursements for imaging, according to a study published in the May issue of the American Journal of Roentgenology. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid have reduced reimbursements for imaging in recent years.
