Variation in a plug and play world
ASPYRA, LLC
Do standards mean your systems and equipment should be "plug and play?" Not necessarily. Standards are recommended practices and formats – they make communication between organizations and systems easier and faster, but there is no legal penalty for a company that chooses not to follow them. DICOM and HL7 are examples of healthcare communications standards for systems and equipment. HL7 (Health Level 7) is an industry standard dealing with the interchange of healthcare data between systems in a healthcare enterprise.

Annual meeting notification and electronic vote
RBMA
The Annual Meeting of Members of the Radiology Business Management Association will be held at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas on Tuesday, June 9, at approximately 9 a.m. RBMA's Bylaws, Article IV, Section 3, require notification not more than sixty (60) and not less than five (5) days prior to the date of such meeting.

RBMA conducts the election of the Slate of Candidates for the RBMA Board of Directors electronically. This allows members who do not attend the Radiology Summit to participate in the election.

Only voting (ACT and 2ND) members may vote on the Slate of Candidates, which consists of nominees for two Regional Director and four Director-At-Large positions. All voting members should have received the link for the electronic ballot. If you have not received it, send a message to vote2015@rbma.org. Ballots are due by May 15.

The results of the election will be announced at the 2015 Annual Members Meeting and the new directors will take office immediately upon the conclusion of the meeting.

There is still time to register for a free audioweb on Post ICD-10-CM Preparation
RBMA
CSI is offering RBMA members a free audioweb on Post ICD-10-CM Preparation. Implementing ICD-10-CM will not end with "go-live" on Oct. 1. Providers have dedicated a significant amount of time and resources to prepare for the new rules, new level of detail, potentially new coverage considerations. It is naïve to think that this implementation will proceed without any snags or forgotten details. This session will assist in ensuring that the resources invested in the implementation will not be lost to a misstep.

Join Melody W. Mulaik, MSHS, CRA, RCC, CPC, CPC-H, and Karna W. Morrow, CPC, RCC, CCS-P, AHIMA Approved ICD-10-CM Trainer, when they present:

Brace for Impact - How to Prepare Now for Post ICD-10-CM Reimbursement

3 ways managers can work better with physicians
Physicians Practice (registration required)
With value-based payment models taking over healthcare, practice managers and administrators must be more aware of how physicians deliver care and how they can help them do it more efficiently. Likewise, physicians, if they care about their compensation levels, need to be more aware of how their decisions impact the bottom line.

Arguments begin in high-profile radiology antitrust trial
Health Imaging
The trial for a much anticipated antitrust case brought against Alliance Radiology by former employee and prominent radiologist Mark Idstrom has begun. Idstrom, who was terminated by Alliance in 2012 for what the company claims was declining performance, alleges he was fired without cause and that exclusive contracts between his former employer and local hospitals have kept him out of a job since his termination.

Survey: Patients' expectations outpacing hospital IT adoptions
Imaging Biz
Hospital patients don't merely dislike dealing with paperwork. When filling out forms seems to slow the delivery of their care, even when hospital staff or clinicians wield the pen and clipboard, patients react viscerally. That's according to a Harris poll of 2,053 American adults commissioned by Ricoh, the Tokyo-based document-management company.

Numbers in a vacuum
Diagnostic Imaging (registration required)
More than occasionally, a glance at popular online radiology forums will yield at least one discussion thread about payment rates for different study types. Not what's being billed by hospitals or imaging centers, not what CMS or insurers are offering ... rather, what individual radiologists who are being compensated per interpreted study are receiving.
