Radiology integration models — Overview and lessons learned

On April 30, Julie Pekarek and Michael Bohl presented Clinical Decision Support: On Track for a Standardized Process for the 2017 Deadline during an online webinar. If you were unable to attend, the recording is available to RBMA members at no cost.

In March 2014, as a part of the Protecting Access to Medicare Act, new legislation was enacted to mandate the use of Clinical Decision Support for advanced imaging. Because the act also delayed ICD-10 and the SGR, this component may have been overlooked. However, it will have a dramatic effect on the current imaging ordering process. This webinar will help you understand both the legislation and the progress made to date on ensuring that providers are ready to implement it.

Variation in a plug and play world

DataMAXX — Did you know? 8 years of A/R results available
RBMA
RBMA imported A/R data from the last five standalone Accounts Receivable Performance Surveys when DataMAXX was launched in 2012. Subscribers at the free, participant basic subscription level can run reports for those years immediately if they participated in those surveys. They also can run reports on the years for which they have submitted data through DataMAXX. Data for 2012 through 2014 can still be submitted.

CMS: Radiologists are buying into PQRS program

Participation by radiologists in the U.S. government's Physician Quality Reporting System has been high, according to a report recently issued by the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Leading the pack are interventional radiologists, with nearly three-quarters participating. PQRS is part of a CMS initiative to promote higher quality in healthcare.

Newly introduced bill looks to establish ICD-10 grace period

After a series of delays, it looks like the U.S. healthcare system will finally upgrade to the ICD-10 coding standard on Oct. 1. While there's no political will to push back the rollout any further, a new bill introduced in the U.S. House looks to implement a transition period that would protect reimbursements when inaccurate codes are submitted.

Payor negotiation: A little preparation goes a long way

Reading the fine print on your payor contracts may seem like more trouble than it's worth, especially if you assume the terms are set in stone. However, physicians have more leverage than they might think, experts say, and with a little preparation may be able to negotiate a better deal. "A lot of practices don't like to negotiate with payors and may have contracts filed away that have never changed for five or 10 years," said Jeffrey Milburn, a healthcare consultant.
