Peter Shumlin signed into law a bill that will begin a plan for a single-payor universal health care system in the state, the first of its kind in the U.S. The bill implements a five-member board appointed by Shumlin — with consent of the Senate — to develop a strategy for a single universal health care system for Vermont. Radiologists finally got their turn to tell the government what changes to make to the draft stage 2 meaningful use guidelines. Final versions of the guidelines will be submitted on June 8. Radiology was one of five specialties which spoke before the Meaningful Use Workgroup of the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology in mid-May. More

In 2008, the Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act was signed, calling for all providers of CT, MRI, breast MRI, nuclear medicine, and PET exams to be accredited through one of three organizations — the American College of Radiology, The Joint Commission, or the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission — by Jan. 1, 2012, in order to receive reimbursement for imaging services from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
