RBMA member practices and billing companies that upload their accounts receivable data to DataMAXX by June 30 will be included in the official statistics. Please help RBMA continue to provide our members with trusted, reliable benchmarks. All participating practices and billing companies receive complimentary access to the results.

Before uploading their data, RBMA members from practices must subscribe to DataMAXX here. Members from billing companies may upload their clients' data through the Vendor Portal — no subscription needed. File layouts (worksheets), upload files and detailed instructions are available here. Contact cynthia.vervena@rbma.org with any questions.

The new DataMAXX Compensation module opens on July 1. This module will collect salary and benefits data for 66 positions including administrators, front and back office staff, technologists, other clinical staff and physicians. Stay tuned for more information!

There are still a few slots open for RBMA U faculty. The RBMA Educational Materials and Products Committee is seeking qualified faculty members to prepare and present courses related to the following topics:
  • Governance
  • Financial Management
  • Quality, Compliance & Risk Management
  • Human Resources Management
  • Operations Management
  • Information Management
  • Leadership
Each faculty member prepares a 60-minute PowerPoint presentation along with a video or audio clip, plus a 20-question quiz on the presented materials. Honorariums are available for qualified faculty members.

Low confidence in Medicare reimbursement for imaging
Diagnostic Imaging (registration required)
Reimbursement continues to be a growing concern as imaging directors and managers noted they have very low confidence that they will receive adequate reimbursement from Medicare for imaging. The latest Medical Imaging Confidence Index data showed that medical imaging managers are even more discouraged about reimbursement than this time last year, when the confidence score was 64. The confidence score for the second quarter of 2014 was 58.

Pioneer ACO program ripe for improvement, providers say

California grand jury details EHR implementation problems

A California county's EHR implementation resulted in inefficient and delayed patient care as the organization did not devote adequate resources to its rollout, a county grand jury report concluded. Ventura County Health Care Agency went live in July 2013 at two hospitals and 40 clinics in the county. In its investigation, the grand jury learned that the EHR vendor for the project had recognized that VCHCA's system had insufficient sources to carry out the implementation.

Uncompensated radiology services in ED open door for improved revenue management

Almost half of all uncompensated services by radiologists in the emergency department are provided to patients with insurance, illustrating room for revenue management improvement, according to a study published in the June issue of the Journal of the American College of Radiology. The role of the emergency department as the safety net for the healthcare delivery system has implications for radiologists, who consequently render a substantial amount of uncompensated imaging services.

ACR CEO Harvey Neiman dies
Aunt Minnie (registration required)
Longtime American College of Radiology CEO Dr. Harvey Neiman has died after a long illness, ACR said. Neiman, 71, dedicated his life to improving medical care, and under his leadership, ACR grew to become one of the world's most powerful medical specialty societies, according to the organization.

Health plans had big premium hikes before Obamacare

Individual health insurance premiums in the years before President Barack Obama signed the Affordable Care Act into law had large average increases and a high variability in rate hikes across different states and insurers, a study found. Nonpartisan foundation The Commonwealth Fund said its findings provide the most comprehensive data assembled to date for use as a benchmark comparison with Affordable Care Act-era price increases, which have begun being released for the 2015 plan year.
