Interventional Radiology Coding Course to be offered at the Fall Educational Conference

A two-day intense course focusing on interventional radiology will take place as a pre-conference session at the upcoming Fall Educational Conference. Taught by Jeff Majchrzak, BA, RT(R), CNMT, RCC, CIRCC and Ezequiel "Zeke" Silva III, MD, RCC, the Interventional Radiology Coding Course will focus on CPT/HCPCS code assignment and assist the attendee in understanding core rules, regulations and definitions needed to confidently code Interventional Radiology services. A portion of time will be spent on reviewing, discussing and performing "hands-on" coding of difficult IR procedure reports focusing on a "best-practice" methodology of coding and billing.

Supreme Court to rule Thursday on health care

A research letter published by Harvard scientists in the Archives of Internal Medicine suggests that doctors who adopt the use of electronic health records have a lower rate of malpractice claims. The researchers examined responses from 275 physicians in Massachusetts who responded to surveys in 2005 and 2007, and examined the physicians' use of electronic health records and the number of suits filed against them. S&P charts 6 percent annual jump in healthcare costs

The average, per capita cost of healthcare services — including Medicare and privately insured patients — is up 6 percent year-over-year in the month of April 2012, as measured by the S&P Healthcare Economic Composite Index. While the 2005 Deficit Reduction Act did reduce the growth rate of in-office, noninvasive musculoskeletal imaging performed by nonradiologists, the legislation failed to stifle the practice, according to a new study published in Radiology. Researchers found that despite the slowdown in this type of imaging after the DRA was implemented, the amount of in-office, noninvasive musculoskeletal imaging performed by nonradiologists was still greater than that performed by radiologists.
