Do you manage your system, or just maintain it? ASPYRA, LLC If you’re just running through the motions of doing maintenance checks and routine ‘fixes’ in your clinical software systems, you’re potentially missing the opportunities to make them work better and do more for you. All of these systems (EMR’s, RIS, HIS, Practice Management, PACS, etc.) require regular checks of key elements and, in some cases, a periodic reboot to keep functioning at the level they were initially set up for. Could they do more?

AMA delegate blasts ICD-10 implementation requirements HealthLeaders Media Physician groups have led much of the resistance against ICD-10 implementation. At its June Delegates meeting, the American Medical Association approved a resolution from W. Jeff Terry, MD, for a two-year grace period to protect physicians from errors and mistakes related to the code set.
Terry also authored an AMA resolution to delay ICD-10 in November 2011 which led to postponing implementation until Oct. 1, 2014.
CMS proposal could lead to more code bundling in 2016 Aunt Minnie (registration required) Radiology could be in store for more code bundling next year, if a proposed 2016 rule issued on July 1 by the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services for the Hospital Outpatient Prospective Payment System is any indication. CMS is proposing to continue its restructuring of Medicare codes, and radiology is among its targets.

One of the key ways to stage your practice for success is your marketing program.
CMS data detail nearly $6.5 billion in payments by drug and device companies Radiology Business CMS published its 2014 Open Payments data last week, detailing payments made by drug and device companies to various healthcare providers. The data includes information on 11.4 million financial transactions made to physicians and teaching hospitals, totaling $6.49 billion.
“Consumer access to information is a key component of delivery system reform and making the healthcare system perform better,” Andy Slavitt, acting CMS administrator, said in a statement.
Tablets and portals may not be a hit, but wearables show promise By Scott E. Rupp It seems patient engagement efforts may require more work if the latest survey holds true. According to a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Informatics Association, giving patients access to portals and tablets "does not have a great impact on their understanding of their care and treatment." The hypothesis was that tablets and apps would result in greater knowledge of team members' names and roles, planned tests and procedures, medications and higher patient activation.
Stage 2 Meaningful Use shouldn't be a nightmare for CIOs Diagnostic Imaging (registration required) Remember the golden days of healthcare IT? Once upon a time, before the advent of clinical applications, the work was well organized and rational. IT supported enterprise-wide financial and administrative applications that were mostly transactional in nature. If the system had to be taken down for a few hours at night for maintenance, it was no big deal.
