New bill would boost colon cancer screening for Medicare
Aunt Minnie (registration required)
New legislation has been introduced that would remove cost barriers to colon cancer screening for Medicare patients. Rep. Charlie Dent (R-PA) and Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) have crafted the Removing Barriers to Colorectal Cancer Screening Act (HR 1070 and S 2348) to offer Medicare beneficiaries the same benefits as those with private insurance, who are not typically required to pay a co-pay for a routine colonoscopy if a polyp is removed during the procedure.

How medical practices can stay ahead of EHR adoption
Physicians Practice
Physicians Practice has been asking physicians and practice administrators about their use of technology for over a decade. Now, many practices are on a second or third EHR system, and an increasing number use a cloud-storage solution for patient data. Priceless? Worthless? Or clueless?
Diagnostic Imaging (registration required)
By Eric Postal, MD: Every now and then, I'll be talking with someone outside of the healthcare industry, or even within it but external to radiology, and the question will come up: How much does an X-ray cost? An ultrasound? CT? MRI? The most honest and succinct answer I can usually offer is "I don't know." If I know the other individual well enough, I might punctuate this seemingly bizarre ignorance of my own livelihood with a "duh" worthy of Moose from the Archie comics.

Corporations 101: What you need to know about this standard business entity
By David B. Mandell, JD, MBA, and Jason M. O'Dell, MS, CWM
A corporation is a legal entity owned by shareholders. The shareholders elect a board of directors who set policies for the corporation, allowing their selected officers to run the corporation day-to-day. Many radiology practice owners use a corporation as part of their practice corporate structure — either a professional corporation for the practice or a standard corporation for ancillary business units. In this article, we examine the basics of corporations, with a focus on their asset protection benefits and weaknesses.

Busy doctors, wasteful spending
The New York Times
Of all the ways to limit healthcare costs, perhaps none is as popular as cutting payments to doctors. In recent years, payment cuts have resulted in a sharp downturn in revenue for many hospitals and private practices. What this has meant for most physicians is that in order to maintain their income, they've had to see more patients. When you reduce the volume of air per breath, the only way to maintain ventilation is to breathe faster.
