The faculty chairs had this to say about the third annual ACR-RBMA Forum: New Strategies for Business and Clinical Leaders in Radiology:

"Diagnostic imaging in America is under attack. These crises are unprecedented. Radiologists and practice administrators need cutting edge information in order to succeed."
— Frank J. Lexa, MD, MBA

"We are in a time of almost unprecedented change for the industry. As we move toward Accountable Care in some form or another, Radiology (leaders) must find the means through which they can provide input and feedback for the most appropriate level and type of imaging even if the service is provided outside their realm of care. All of this will require strong leadership teams of Physician/Administrator dyads. It is through meetings such as the ACR-RBMA Forum that individuals are capable of gaining the knowledge necessary to bring this about."
— Keith Chew, MHA, CMPE

Join Dr. Lexa, Mr. Chew and an expert group of faculty members for two days of intense strategizing and learning.

Fierce Healthcare    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
New coordinated care models, like accountable care organizations, are being touted as ways to eliminate unnecessary tests and procedures and improve care. While these new arrangements may reduce costs, they also may increase malpractice risks for doctors, according to Medpage Today. These new payment models are putting pressure on doctors to undertreat patients, note authors Lee J. Johnson and Dr. Frank J. Weinstock. More

The health care system as you've known it will look drastically different within the next few years, and the radiology industry is set to change with it. That's the message from Robert Still, M.D., practice manager for Lancaster Radiology Associates Ltd. in Auburn, Pa. More

Incidental findings can lead to malpractice suits
Imaging Economics    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Radiologists inevitably worry about missing something, but an equally vexing part of the job is seeing too much. Looking for one thing and finding another — the so-called "incidentaloma" — has long been a familiar conundrum that only gets worse as technology gets better. "The more we can see," said Leonard Berlin, M.D., FACR, "the more we find." More

Aunt Minnie (registration required)    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail

The use of CT in emergency departments has risen sharply in the past decade, and it's not hard to find opposition to the kinds of growth numbers that some find alarming. Radiology business isn't just reading pictures
Health Imaging & IT    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
The hospital represents more than 80 percent of revenue for many radiology practices, yet breakups between practices and hospitals have become increasingly common, said Patricia Kroken, principal at Healthcare Resource Providers in Albuquerque, N.M., during an education session at the annual meeting of AHRA on Aug. 14. These breakups may signify the proverbial canary in the coal mine. More

Finding the humor in radiology
Diagnostic Imaging (registration required)    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Radiology, as with most of health care, can be a pretty grim environment. People are sick, suffering, and/or dying, there's endless pressure to increase one's quantity and quality of work, and it can seem like there's no room for comedy in the mix. However, with a little determination and creativity, one can find a few ways to keep on smiling. More
