The inaugural International Day of Radiology on Nov. 8 marks the anniversary of the 1895 discovery of the X-ray and the tremendous advances in patient care made possible by radiologists, radiation oncologists and medical imaging.

IDoR joint sponsors — the American College of Radiology, the European Society of Radiology (ESR) and the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) — will host international activities to mark the event, together with 66 medical societies in 38 countries.

ACR chapters, participating societies and all radiology facilities are encouraged to participate by using the customizable tools found here.

A new report on healthcare utilization at private U.S. insurance companies indicates that despite some increases in utilization, healthcare spending growth between 2010 and 2011 was driven by prices charged by providers — and that radiology's spending growth actually decreased. The report by the Health Care Cost Institute found that per-capita spending for those with employer-sponsored insurance increased by 4.6 percent between 2010 and 2011. More
