Weekend highlights from Seattle
RBMA
The ACR-RBMA Forum held this past Friday and Saturday attracted over 100 physician and administrator attendees. Thanks to the committee and chairs Thomas Greeson, JD, and Jonathan Berlin, MD, MBA, FACR, for collaborating and offering valuable sessions on value added services, measuring quality and value, productivity management, and hospital radiology alignment, to name just a few.

The weekend continued with the RBMA Fall Educational Conference. Starting Sunday afternoon, the conference began with a presentation by Dr. Boucher, who shared his experience as a doctor while on duty in Afghanistan. This riveting session was shared around the country via live stream and will be available as a recording after the conference, courtesy of Imagine Software.

The Grand Opening of the Exhibit Hall was celebrated early Sunday evening, when attendees welcomed and visited over 50 industry vendors.

Monday morning brought the return of the Pikes Place Fish Mongers. Seen originally in 2006, the current version was equally as impressive, and the audience was able to experience the art of fish catching first hand.

Several deep-dive sessions were presented. Attendees were able to spend concentrated time on one topic, explore deeper, and walk away with a greater understanding of the issue.

Several companies presented short talks in the Product Showcase during lunch and the extended Exhibit Hall hours on Monday and Tuesday. The small theater attracted attendees wanting to know more about services available to them. During the Exhibit Hall hours, attendees were encouraged and incentivized to visit each vendor by participating in the RBMA Fishing Expedition. After visiting certain booths each day, attendees turned in their game card for a daily drawing to win $500!

RBMA conferences are committed to educating the radiology business community. Join us next year for the Radiology Summit, June 7-10, 2015, Caesars Palace, Las Vegas, Nev.

"Storage Should Be Easy!" At ASPYRA, We Agree ...
ASPYRA, LLC
Every facility wants to know: “How can I safely, securely and cost effectively preserve my medical image data, and still keep up with all of the regulatory compliance requirements? How do I avoid PACS vendor lock-in and risky data migrations? How can I be sure my images will be available, years from now? VNA technology sounds promising, but it also sounds like just swapping one ‘gold plated’, complex storage technology for another.” ASPYRA provides the most economical, functional, long term, vendor neutral image archival (VNA) solution available.

Meaningful use: Radiology group achieves attestation success under unique circumstances
Radiology Business Journal
Many radiology groups have already committed to meaningful use of health IT to reap the financial benefits of utilizing electronic health records, but a high percentage remain on the sidelines. Some of the reluctance could be attributed to the belief that the cost will outweigh the benefit, but that disregards the fact that referring physicians who have attested will need to connect with specialty providers for phase 2 in order to continue complying with the program.

Providers ask HHS to address EHR interoperability barriers
HealthLeaders Media
"Strict MU requirements and deadlines (do not) provide sufficient time to focus on achieving interoperability," says a letter co-signed by eight provider organizations and large health systems. The unexpected costs of Medicare
U.S. News & World Report
Created in 1965, Medicare was intended to answer growing reports of impoverished seniors languishing or dying because they lacked health insurance. Since then, Medicare has acquired a reputation as the ultimate government entitlement, a system of low-cost, taxpayer subsidized health care provided at the stage in life when retirees need it most.
