An expert panel of radiology administrators and business managers from AHRA and RBMA and editors from Health Imaging will choose up to five winners, who will receive a cash award of $1,000 and be featured in an upcoming issue of Health Imaging. Winners will be honored at a joint AHRA-RBMA event at the RSNA annual meeting in November in Chicago. The deadline for nominations is Nov. 15.

RBMA    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail
article
Dr. Smith, a radiologist client of mine, arrived at my office for a meeting and immediately began sending and receiving text messages on his cellphone. Smith explained that his colleague Dr. Jones was updating him on a patient matter. Jones had texted Smith the patient's name, date of birth and radiographic diagnosis. Jones also texted Smith a picture of the patient's x-ray. From across the table in clear view, I was able to see all of that information. More

Attorneys General and FTC continue to increase legal standards for data privacy compliance and penalties for noncompliance
RBMA    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Many have written about it and several have contemplated it — whether states will adopt private data security standards, such as the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards, and use them as legal standards that owners and holders of personal information and personal health information must comply with.

That's exactly what the Massachusetts Attorney General did when it recently filed suit against Briar Group, LLC, and alleged, among other things, that Briar was not PCI compliant at the time of its data breach in November 2009, affecting 53,000 MasterCard and 72,000 Visa accounts.
