RBMA member benefit: Scholarships
RBMA
Each year, RBMA offers scholarships to assist members with attending RBMA educational programming. There are seven scholarships available for 2015:

The Bob Luther Emerging Leader Travel Scholarship was created to give RBMA members who are first time practice managers or those interested in becoming a practice manager a chance to experience the value of RBMA. The yearly scholarship recipient is awarded the opportunity to attend either the RBMA Radiology Summit or RBMA Fall Educational Conference. The application deadline for the 2015 scholarship is March 6, 2015.

RBMA is also pleased to announce that it has once again partnered with vRad and will be offering six vRad Education Scholarships to RBMA programs in 2015!

Applications are now being accepted on a rolling deadline basis until all available scholarships are awarded. Please submit your application by the following deadlines:

DataMAXX — Did you know? Accessing results
RBMA
With the advent of DataMAXX, RBMA's online data warehouse, in 2012, RBMA no longer prints survey results. Subscribers can run structured queries that show the most current results. Subscribers who have submitted data can run free reports that show their practice's results next to statistics for all respondents; the annual subscription rate for non-participants is $500 for basic reporting or $1,000 for premium reporting. RBMA U highlight: Information Management
RBMA
Radiology Business 101 is comprised of eight modules based on the RBMA Common Body of Knowledge (CBK). The fourth module, Information Management, is an overview course designed to address the various types of data stored in the information management system, as well as data security, storage management, data metrics, standards and best practices, internal and external networking options and management processes.

The courses INF-003 through INF-006 are being produced in partnership with the Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine (SIIM) and will be available soon.

The Information Management module includes the following six courses:

INF-002 HIPAA HITECH – Security and Audits
INF-003 Managing the IT Workflow
INF-004 Data Management Standards and Best Practices
INF-005 Internal & External Communication Systems

RSNA: Get prepared for ICD-10

After some highly publicized delays, ICD-10 codes will be implemented Oct. 1, 2015, and radiologists were once again urged to prepare for the switch during a Dec. 1 session at the annual meeting of the Radiological Society of North America. Denise Merlino, founder of Merlino Health Care Consulting, highlighted important steps providers can take now to save themselves headache in the coming months.

Cloud gains traction in healthcare

Healthcare providers are increasingly recognizing that the cloud empowers them to reduce costs, enhance agility and improve insights. And many now are investing more heavily and expanding their cloud initiatives. By 2020, 80 percent of healthcare data will "pass through the cloud at some point in its lifetime, as providers seek to leverage cloud-based technologies and infrastructure for data collection, aggregation, analytics and decision-making," according to IDC Health Insights.

Patients like accessing imaging records

Most patients like having direct access to their medical exam records, according to a new study presented at the annual meeting of the Radiological Society of North America. Researchers from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City evaluated patient and provider satisfaction with the use of RSNA Image Share, an Internet-based interoperable image exchange system that gives patients ownership of their imaging exams and control over access to their imaging records.
