Not much to be thankful for in final 2014 MPFS, OPPS rules

There's not a lot for medical imaging to be thankful for in the new Medicare payment rates for 2014. On Nov. 27, the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services revealed its estimate of next year's physician payment cut under the sustainable growth rate formula. CMS also confirmed other payment cuts that critics say will affect women's access to mammography and other breast cancer services.

Final 2014 HOPPS rule excludes some data from MR and CT cost center calculations

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services elected to keep the new separate cost centers for MR and CT in its final Hospital Outpatient Prospective Payment System rule for 2014, but conceded that some of the cost data hospitals had submitted was likely flawed and would be excluded from the cost center calculations. Specifically, CMS excluded data from hospitals that used a cost allocation method of "square feet" and gave those institutions four years to fix their data.
