Canada's military has started work on a multi-billion dollar program designed to train its future pilots.
Industry representatives are being asked for feedback on the Future Pilot Training (FPT) project, expected to be worth at least $4 billion. The project will be put in place over the next five years, with a contract set for 2021. It will cover a 20-year period.

It's just 36 words, out of a speech that totalled, as written, almost 1,700. But they were the ones that jumped out at me in the new Liberal government's Speech from the Throne. The words were, "To keep Canadians safe and be ready to respond when needed, the government will launch an open and transparent process to review existing defence capabilities, and will invest in building a leaner, more agile, better-equipped military."
Fair enough. But what, pray tell, does "leaner" mean?

The Canadian government has been considering keeping a military refuelling aircraft and Aurora surveillance planes overseas and allowing them to continue taking part in the war against the Islamic State.
The CBC went further, stating that the decision is a done deal.
Tina Crouse, a spokeswoman for Defence Minister Harjit Sajjan has told Defence Watch that no decision has been made.
The move would placate coalition allies, particularly the United States, who view the refuelling plane and the surveillance aircraft as valuable contributions to the ongoing air campaign.

KB882 had a long service life, and then, a far less deserving fate, and finally enthusiasts are trying to give the historic plane a better future.
Of the over 7,000 built, this plane is one of only 17 survivors and KB882 is one of an even fewer number with actual wartime bombing service.
Flown in as a serviceable aircraft to the small airport at Edmunstan, N.B., the plane sat as an outdoor monument for decades, slowly deteriorating in the elements, winter and summer.

The long-anticipated, highly troubled Bombardier jetliner was finally making its debut at the Paris Air Show. There were line-ups for a look at the aircraft's interior. CSeries press conferences were overflowing. But the moment of truth was the flight demonstration, where everyone craned their necks to see if the so-called "whisper jet" would live up to its name.
