Here is the schedule for the Snowbirds aerobatics team — coming to a city near you

The RCAF has published the schedule for the Snowbirds aerobatics team. The Snowbirds' pilots and aircraft technicians spend the winter months at their home base in Moose Jaw, SK, practicing, the RCAF points out. The Snowbirds' show is the result of six months of intensive preparation and training and consists of over fifty different formations and maneuvers, it added.

Sneak peek: Trailer for Lancaster documentary goes viral

A trailer from a documentary film about the historic trip by Hamilton's Lancaster to England last summer is going viral online. Return of Giants is being produced by the Dundas documentary company Suddenly SeeMore and is scheduled for release this summer. The company was hired by the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum, which is hoping to have the documentary shown on television and then sold on DVD.

Need a T-33 to de-ice a runway? No problem

In February 1958, the T-33 training at Royal Canadian Air Force station Gimli, already far behind schedule, was thrown into chaos. Southern Manitoba, where Gimli was located, was hit by an extended shot of freezing rain followed by a flash freeze; as far as the weather forecasters could see, there was no relief. Like the rest of Course 5701, I'd just finished ground school and perfected my drills in the static trainer, and this latest slap in the face from Mother Nature was keeping me from fulfilling my hopes and dreams of finally flying a jet.

Fighter jet fly-bys part of RCAF training

The black jet seen flying above Medicine Hat over the past few weeks contains the next contingent of Royal Canadian Air Force members as part of training on the CT-155 Hawk out of Moose Jaw-based 15 Wing. "They do it for the love of the flying, to serve and protect Canada," said RCAF flight instructor Capt. Simon Hogg of trainees following a flight that took him and his student over Medicine Hat recently.

Vancouver Island's Viking Air flying high with reincarnation of Twin Otter

David Curtis likes to say that aircraft manufacturing is not for the faint of heart. But in a Viking Air hangar near Victoria where four Twin Otters are in the final stages of assembly, his company's big gamble on an old workhorse is paying off. The employee parking lots are full — 450 workers in B.C. alone — and the plant is running staggered shifts 21 hours a day.
