Waterloo Region Record
The Trudeau government is quietly shopping for drones for the military and expects to see expressions of interest from the defence industry by mid-April.
But the tire-kicking exercise is setting the stage for a potentially bruising policy debate over whether the remotely controlled aircraft should be armed and under what circumstances they would employ deadly force.
The real stars of the Quinte International Air Show will be the vintage wartime aircraft, their engines roaring above this sprawling air field.
Decades earlier, Trenton was known as "the hub" that trained air crews from around the world.
The air show that takes flight on June 25-26 will commemorate the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan and the 75th anniversary of the 400 series of squadrons, designations still in use by the Royal Canadian Air Force.
Extinguishing fires, parachuting search and rescue technicians and the jaws of life were all part of a busy scene at the Kamloops airport recently, but the emergency was only an exercise, a unique one which gave local emergency crews a chance to work with the best of the best in search and rescue, the Royal Canadian Air Force's 442 Transport and Rescue Squadron.
The Comox-based squadron descended upon the city for exercises with Kamloops Search and Rescue, the Rocky Mountain Rangers, Kamloops Fire Rescue and local B.C. Ambulance Services which showed their preparedness for when disaster strikes.
Twenty-five years after the Liberation of Kuwait, 8 Wing continues to play a key role in Canada's fight against ISIL. But senior base commanders paused recently during a commemoration ceremony held at the National Air Force Museum to honour and remember 8 Wing's role on the 25th anniversary of Operation Friction and the liberation of the Gulf state.
Harry Hardy has a lot of stories that end with him saying that he obviously survived or he wouldn't be here.
The 93-year-old former fighter pilot recently shared some of them with the Social Studies 11 class at R.E. Mountain school in Langley, B.C.
The students, who have been studying the history of the Second World War, listened intently as Hardy described the hazardous life of a fighter pilot of that era.
Hardy flew a Typhoon, a British-built fighter-bomber that made low-altitude attacks on German ground forces.

When Paul Blinn looks at the Piasecki/Vertol H-44 helicopter, he's helping restore for Greenwood Military Aviation Museum, he sees traces of the Boeing Vertol CH-113 Labrador.
Both are tandem-rotor aircraft used for search-and-rescue missions in the Canadian Armed Forces and both are shaped a bit like tropical fruit.
The H-44's nickname was the "Flying Banana," and the Labrador is vaguely similar, with nose and tail sections that rise upward from a long, tube-shaped body.
U.S. Air Force Secretary Deborah Lee James has revealed the first rendering of the country's proposed Long Range Strike Bomber. It is designated the B-21.
There are no existing prototypes of the aircraft, so the unveiling was of the artist rendering, which the USAF says is based on the initial design concept. The designation B-21 recognizes the LRS-B as the first bomber of the 21st century, according to USAF.
The bomber is a top priority for USAF, but the project is expected to face hurdles, including over costs.
