Government of Canada
In the years since the night of May 16-17, 1943 — the night of Operation Chastise — the events that transpired on that moonlit spring night have been made into feature films, documentaries, novels, non-fiction books, magazine articles, dramatic paintings, computer games, marches and comic books. It was a stunning attack deep inside Germany on targets long thought to be unassailable.

In 1967, Canada was celebrating its centennial with exuberant projects and a new Canuck pride from coast to coast. Canada was indeed young, but so was aviation. Just 58 years before Centennial Year, the first flight by a powered heavier-than-air aircraft in Canada took place on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. Along with massive celebratory events like Expo 67 in Montréal, everyone in the country had pet Centennial projects, from building new community centres and skating rinks to painting Centennial symbols on their houses.

Leonardo is challenging in Federal Court the awarding of the fixed wing search and rescue aircraft contract to Airbus. It alleges that its aircraft, the C-27J, is better value — it is less costly and provides more capability. Airbus, not surprisingly, disputes that claim.

The Swedish Air Force has postponed plans to upgrade its Lockheed Martin C-130H Hercules fleet instead opting to do a mid-life upgrade for its six transport aircraft, an Air Force official said recently.
Col. Magnus Liljegren, head of the Air Force department at the Swedish armed forces headquarters, said it was probable that the work would consist of updates to aircraft's avionics systems, not structural upgrades of the airframe itself. For that reason, the C-130s will fly only until the early 2030s.
