Serving you with mounting military medals and framing of RCAF memorabilia for 20 years
The coming war with Russia
Before he retired, the head of Canada's air force provided a blunt assessment of what might emerge from the current military mission to Ukraine.
"We pray that our ongoing NATO mission isn't accompanied by the escalation of deadly force and the shedding of blood," Lt.-Gen. Yvan Blondin wrote in the magazine RCAF Today. "We have everything to lose and nothing to gain through a showdown with our former Eastern Bloc foes."

North Saanich owner restores Canso to flying order
Peninsula News Review
Pat Phillips and his team along with Bob Dyck of North Saanich have been working hard to restore a PBY-5A Canso aircraft, cleaning, sanding and painting it to make it look like it is new again.
The 70-year-old aircraft has been up and away at air shows around the Island and looks the same as it did back in its prime in 1945.
"It's fun to work on it, it's like working in a museum in there, it hasn't changed since 1944," said Phillips, the president of The Catalina Preservation Society.
CVEDS highlights quest for Fixed Wing Training Centre
Comox Valley Echo
The proponents leading the quest to get the training centre component of the Fixed Wing Search and Rescue Project established at 19 Wing Comox, capitalized on the recent Vancouver Island Aerospace Association Innovation forum to make their intentions known.
Fred Bigelow, a former base commander who is helping the Comox Valley Economic Development Society, relayed their goals to a myriad of guests from different innovative companies that included the Italian aeronautics firm Alenia Aermacchi, who is one of the major bidders for the Fixed Wing Project.
Gander's carrier pigeons
History has lots of tales about the pigeon delivering vital messages in time of peace and war. It was war that caused the RCAF Station in Gander to enlist a "squadron" of carrier homing pigeons in 1943. The aim was to train the birds to carry messages from the military base to locations where telephone lines did not exist and where radio transmissions weren't possible or desirable.

2016 #1 Air Division Cruise Reunion
A Reunion cruise has been set up, to reunite former serving members, civilian staff and dependents who had the great fortune to be part of #1 Air Division in Europe.
The cruise will be aboard the Holland America ship, MS Nieuw Amsterdam — a highly-rated and new ship in their fleet. We will depart from Ft. Lauderdale, FL on April 10, 2016 — sailing through the Panama Canal on her way to Vancouver, B.C. The cruise length is 20 nights. The ports of call will be:
Cruising Panama Canal
Puerto Caldera, Costa Rica
Puerto Quetzal, Guatemala
Puerto Chiapas, Mexico
Puerto Vallarta, Mexico
Cabo San Lucas, Mexico
San Diego, California
As with all Panama Canal cruises — the ship will book up quickly — so the recommendation is to book soon to avoid disappointment. Already a core group are booked and ready to enjoy the companionship, the memories, wonderful weather, the ports and all the great amenities of life aboard a beautiful ship.

RCAF memorial event: January 2016
It is my hope that fellow RCAF Association members in the Clearwater and Tampa, FL, areas can join us on January 11th, 2016, to honour those Floridians who volunteered with the RCAF and RAF during the Second World War. The Royal Canadian Legion Post 144 plans to host the event during their meeting at the American Legion Post 7 facility in Clearwater, FL. Canadian Forces personnel from around Florida will attend. Karl Kjarsgaard, who is a Board Member of Bomber Command Museum of Canada and the Director of Halifax 57 Rescue (Canada), will be speaking and displaying Bomber Command Museum's transportable memorial. We will also have representatives or members of the Civil Air Patrol (U.S. Air Force Auxiliary) and Florida Aviation Historical Society. Hopefully, RAF, USAF and other officials will agree to attend. The building's occupancy capacity is 225 persons. The two plaques that will be dedicated can be seen here and here. Note that Halifax 57 Rescue (Canada) donated the aluminum for the RCAF crest. The metal was obtained from a downed Halifax bomber. I will update everyone again once additional details become known. Mr. Dann Oliver (RCL Post 144 & RCL Eastern Division, U.S.A.) and I are planning and coordinating.
