Competition heats up as Ottawa reviews options to procure costly F-35 fighter jets

The Boeing aerospace company has provided the Canadian government with cost and capability data for an advanced version of its F-18 Super Hornet fighter jet which Boeing suggests would cost $1.7 billion less for a fleet of 65 jets than the Lockheed Martin F-35 stealth fighter project that the federal government has temporarily put on hold.

Sea Kings possible replacement familiar to Canadians

The irony won't be lost on military observers in Canada and around the world. Twenty years after Prime Minister Jean Chrétien cancelled a $5 billion contract to replace Canada's already aging fleet of Sea King helicopters with the British-Italian EH 101, Canadian military officials are kicking the tires of that same helicopter, though it goes by a different name these days.

Canada looks at Royal Navy choppers

The Harper government may be ready to throw in the towel on the purchase of long-delayed CH-148 Cyclone helicopters and has gone as far as sending a military team to Britain to evaluate other aircraft. Defence sources say the team, which included an officer from the air force directorate of air requirements branch, visited a southern base in the United Kingdom recently to look at Royal Navy HM-1 Merlin helicopters.

Battle of Britain still remembered in Comox

The public is invited to commemorate the 73rd anniversary of the Battle of Britain at the 19 Wing Comox Memorial Aircraft Park. Canadian Armed Forces members both past and present will be in attendance and on parade to mark the sacrifices made by Canadian and Allied servicemen and women who fought in the pivotal Second World War battle. The parade will include a fly-by of a CP-140 Aurora.

The bi-annual Junior Ranks Reunion is held for those who were stationed at RCAF Station St. Hubert - including but not limited to those who worked with the 401 & 438 Reserve Sqn’s, 104 KU, 426 Sqn, ADCHQ, and all other units. Today St. Hubert has so much less activity that we hold our reunion at RCAF Base Trenton. Our 9th bi-annual reunion will be held in the WOs' & SGTs' Mess at 8 Wing Trenton, Ontario between June 20th – 22nd, 2014.

Boeing demonstrates advanced super hornet

Boeing reported that during three weeks of testing in August, it successfully demonstrated that its F/A-18 Advanced Super Hornet — fitted with new conformal fuel tanks (CFT) and an enclosed weapons pod (EWP) — will be able to outperform perceived threats.
