Fetch More Customers with Doggone Cute Giftware
Spending on pet care is expected to surpass $45 billion this year, according to the American Pet Products Association. In 2008, it was $43.2 billion; in 2007, $41.2 billion; and in 2006, $38.5 billion.
In honor of the dog days of August and the millions of pet lovers who see the recession as no reason to stop spending on their furry friends, Floral Management dug up some pet products for you to carry in your shop in the August New Products column.
Don’t think your suddenly price conscious shopper will splurge on a “muttini” dog bowl or lanolin-enriched pet wipes? A recent survey by WSL Strategic Retail found that 81 percent of respondents are spending the same amount or more money on their pets despite the tough economic times. Of 18 percent who admit to spending more, 68 percent said they treat pets as their children, half said it makes them happy to buy nice things for their pets and a third buy top-of-the-line products.
Try this:
- Check out our “top-of-line” ruff stuff on p. 44 of the August issue of Floral Management and get ready to set out the water bowl.
- Already catering to the pet crowd? Why not host a bow-quet night for dogs and their owners with treats and specials.
