This is partly due to accumulation of study data showing the impact of radiation exposure on the job, with interventional cardiologists having higher rates of left-sided brain tumors, skin cancer, posterior subcapsular lens changes (a precursor to cataracts), thyroid disease and neuro-degenerative disease.

Despite successful reperfusion after large myocardial infarction, bioabsorbable cardiac matrix did not reduce adverse left ventricular remodeling or cardiac events, according to data published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.
In PRESERVATION I (Prevention of Remodeling of the Ventricle and Congestive Heart Failure After Acute Myocardial Infarction) clinical trial, Sunil V. Rao, MD, of the Duke Clinical Research Institute in Durham, North Carolina, and colleagues compared bioabsorbable cardiac matrix against saline to analyze left ventricle dilation and adverse events between baseline and six months.

Despite the fact that ischemic coronary artery disease is the most common cause of heart failure, most patients with heart failure are not tested for it, researchers reported in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology. "This is relevant, not only because ischemic coronary artery disease represents a potentially treatable (or reversible) cause of heart failure, but also because the presence of coronary artery disease can be synergistically and independently associated with worsened long-term outcomes," Darshan Doshi, MD, MS, of the division of cardiology at the Columbia University Medical Center/New York-Presbyterian Hospital and colleagues wrote.
