Tennessee solar study says need to stay aggressive

Tennessee's solar and related industries provide more than 6,400 jobs in a growing green economic sector, but the state needs to stay aggressive in supporting and pursuing the ventures, a recent report shows. The report released by the Tennessee Solar Institute shows the state has more than 200 organizations involved in solar power, including 174 for-profit entities.More

IKEA adds rooftop solar photovoltaic to all southern stores

Retail chain IKEA announced that all operations in the Southern U.S. will be powered by rooftop solar, amounting to a total of 10.7 megawatts (MW) across nine stores and a distribution center. IKEA already has solar photovoltaic (PV) at 12 stores in the U.S. After its southern stores add solar, the company will have solar PV at 75 percent of its U.S. locations — a total of 26.8 MW. More

Rockford Solar Partners, a renewable energy development joint venture between Wanxiang America and New Generation Power, received Department of Energy and Federal Aviation Administration environmental approval to proceed on an American-based commercial airport solar farm. The company said the airport has over 70 prime acres to install the solar panels, and Rockford is well known for its other green practices and incentives. More

New York trying to create new solar rebate market

New York solar energy advocates are pushing for the adoption of a new bill that would create a solar renewable energy credit (SREC) market. If enacted, the New York Solar Industry Development and Jobs Act would launch an SREC market starting in 2013. An SREC represents the environmental attributes from a solar facility and is generated each time a certified and registered solar power system produces 1,000 kilowatt-hours (KWh) of energy.More

Solar Power to install another rooftop system at Fox

Solar Power Inc. is set to install an additional 230-kilowatt photovoltaic system at the 20th Century Fox Studios Lot in Century City, Calif. The company has been contracted by Twentieth Century Fox Film Corp., also known as Fox or 20th Century Fox, to install the rooftop solar systems on two soundstages, the company announced. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. More

New Jersey adopts energy master plan

Gov. Chris Christie adopted an Energy Master Plan, with changes aimed at stabilizing New Jersey's once flourishing solar energy market, which some fear is threatened by a collapse. For the most part, the final version of the plan sticks to the broad outlines of a draft unveiled this past June, ignoring many criticisms raised by clean energy advocates during public hearings on the proposal. Much of the disapproval focused on a scaling back of renewable energy targets and promoting an increased reliance on natural gas.More

Tigo ramps up funds and production of solar electronics

Tigo Energy, which develops solar electronics to boost power generation from solar cells, announced it has raised a D round of $18 million. The company, which has shipped "hundreds of thousands" of devices, expects to ship more than one million of them in 2012, Tigo CEO Sam Arditi told GigaOM. More
