TOMORROW'S WEBINAR: Utilize Your Website to Maximize Online Sales
Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Currently, many consumers are spending at least 40% of their day on the Internet and 97% of them are using the Internet to research products and services — that they then buy locally! With that being the case, your company's Web presence and search engine discoverability is mission-critical. While consumer utilization of the Internet has been stratospheric in its growth, retail in general, has been very slow to recognize this and respond. To that end, SGMA is host a webinar tomorrow afternoon (Thursday) at 2 p.m. EST to discuss "Utilizing Online Marketing to Grow Your Business." An expert from Netsertive and Google will provide guidance on how companies, mainly smaller and start-up companies, can optimize their websites and find the right customers online. More

Successful Industry Appeal Saves Manufacturers & Retailers Millions of Dollars
Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Averting potential disaster for manufacturers and retailers of football gloves, the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) has upheld an appeal brought by SGMA and the NSGA, agreeing to delay the implementation of the new standard on football gloves until the 2013/2014 school year. The new standard had been set to take effect this coming fall — which would have left high school football teams, retailers and manufacturers holding millions of dollars of non-compliant inventory. In last week's appeal hearing, SGMA President Tom Cove implored the NFHS Rules Review Committee to consider the harsh economic impact the rule would inflict on high school football programs and industry suppliers. In an attempt to more clearly distinguish between the libero and other team members, uniform requirements will be changing in high school volleyball. At its January meeting in Indianapolis, the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) Volleyball Rules Committee approved new uniform requirements that will take effect in 2016. All rules changes passed by the Volleyball Rules Committee were subsequently approved by the NFHS Board of Directors. More

Import Restrictions Tighten in Argentina and Brazil; Better News in Mexico
Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Effective Feb. 1, Argentina added to its arsenal of import restrictions by requiring all importers to file a sworn statement with the country's tax authority, AFIP, detailing their import plans. AFIP can take up to three weeks to review the declarations, and early reports indicated that roughly one of every three submissions was being denied during the program's first week. More

Special Agents Seize Counterfeit Items at Super Bowl
Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
While players, coaches and fans were in Indianapolis recently getting ready for Super Bowl XLVI, federal authorities were keeping an eye on counterfeiters trying to make a 'quick buck' trying to sell illegally produced Super Bowl goods and products. Nearly $5 million worth of fake NFL merchandise was seized and more than 300 unauthorized websites were shut down — according to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency. More
