Change in Leadership at CPSC SGMA Education and Resources Acting CPSC Chair Nancy Nord has stepped down. Fellow commissioner Thomas Moore is now the acting head. This became official on Monday, June 1. Nord plans to remain a commissioner until the end of her term in 2012. Moore will remain acting chair until the U.S. Senate confirms a new commissioner to that seat. Confirmation hearings for Inez Moore Tenenbaum, President Obama's pick for that role, have not yet been scheduled. Obama plans to increase the number of seats on the commission from three to five. The new Commissioners will have increased funding and will be ready to start enforcement efforts. “Make sure that you are in compliance,” advises SGMA President Tom Cove. As an aside, SGMA is hosting a conference call on June 17 to explain the status of the recent CPSIA legislation. More
CPSIA Tracking Label: Recent Development SGMA Education and Resources Section 103 of the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act ("CPSIA") requires that manufacturers, to the extent practicable, place permanent, distinguishing marks on all consumer products and packaging intended primarily for children age 12 and under (children’s products). Section 103 is effective one year after the date of enactment of the CPSIA or August 14, 2009. Click here for more. SGMA is hosting a conference call on June 17 to explain this issue.
