As SGMA continues to focus its efforts on communicating significant industry news to its membership, the In Brief newsletter will be now distributed on a weekly basis. Since In Brief will be seen more frequently, SGMA will reduce the number of stories in each issue so that it remains a newsletter which is a reflection of its title.

New Proposed CPSC Chair and Commissioner Could Spell Trouble for Manufacturers
SGMA Public Policy
In announcing the funding and personnel decisions for the CPSC, the Administration indicated the President’s desire ‘to protect the public, especially children, from unreasonable risks of serious injury or death from consumer products, including children's products.' The proposed funding would add $107 million to the CPSC budget, a 71 percent increase. More

Promote Physical Activity by Making It More Affordable
SGMA Public Policy
Contact your local Congressman to push for support of the PHIT (Personal Health Investment Today) Bill. The PHIT Bill (HR 2105) features tax breaks for sports and fitness equipment purchases. The PHIT Bill would allow up to $2,000 to be set aside in a pre-tax account which would allow for reimbursement of physical activity expenses such as home fitness equipment; registration fees for local youth and adult sports leagues; camps & community programs (that include physical activity); and health club memberships. There’s a $250 per item cap on non-fitness equipment purchases. Click here to send a letter to Congress to show your support. More
