Ending Hospital Price Discrimination Against the Uninsured from the New York Times As President Obama and Congress find themselves constrained by a rapidly growing federal deficit, they may have to be parsimonious in the subsidies granted uninsured families toward the purchase of health insurance. Many solid middle-class, uninsured Americans may not benefit much or at all from such subsidies. Absent a mandate to the contrary, and perhaps even with such a mandate, they may remain uninsured.

As part of Hospitals in Pursuit of Excellence, the American Hospital Association’s initiative to accelerate performance improvement in hospitals and health systems, the AHA has launched a new audioconference series that will highlight the leading strategies and innovations in performance improvement that are being championed today in America's hospitals and health systems. This series of monthly programs, entitled Profiles in Excellence, provides an opportunity to learn about some of the newest and most innovative practices that are driving performance excellence in high-performing hospitals and health systems. From the front lines of patient care to the executive suite, participants will hear directly from innovators and improvers who are driving performance excellence and making improvement happen. The AHA is pleased to provide this series on a complimentary basis to members of At Large.
