Telus launches Internet safety program

Telus announced the rollout today of a Canada-wide Internet safety program for parents, kids and educators that will include an online site, seminars and one-on-one training aimed at Internet users of all ages. The announcement of the Telus Wise initiative, which was introduced earlier this year to Telus corporate customers, comes close to a year after the tragic suicide of Port Coquitlam teen Amanda Todd who was the victim of online sexual exploitation and cyberbullying.

Two arts groups link up for joint crowdsourcing campaign
The Record
For the first time in this region, two arts organizations have launched a joint crowdsourcing campaign to help pay artists fees for their ambitious celebration of world music and theatre called We Are Culture. The MT Space multicultural theatre company and Neruda Arts aim to raise $16,000 in the campaign from the crowdsourcing website called Indiegogo.

Verizon's next cloud services emphasize performance, granular billing

Verizon is extending its suite of cloud services to offer a new IaaS (infrastructure-as-a-service) option, called Verizon Cloud Compute, as well as a new storage-as-a-service, Verizon Cloud Storage, that the company says offer finer granularity in pricing and stricter quality of service metrics than its competitors.

Magical Internet eraser now legally required in California

California Governor Jerry Brown finally did something to protect young people from abusive social media. It was silly and pointless, but at least he did something! Specifically, Brown signed the "Eraser Button" bill into law. Senate Bill No. 568 demands that by 2015, every Internet site or app must give underage users in California the ability to remove content that they later regret having posted.
