1st public school designed for LEED Platinum certification uses LED lighting
Green Building Elements
Sandy Grove Middle School in Lumber Bridge, North Carolina is the first leased public school building in the United States designed to be LEED Platinum certified. Developed by Firstfloor and sister company SfL+a Architects, Sandy Grove is a public/private partnership and the first energy positive school in the nation to be financed out of its own expected energy savings and then leased to the school system. The building is projected to save the county $16 million on its energy bills over the life of the building.

Green building is now counted as a business imperative

According to the World Green Building Trends survey by the McGraw Hill Construction, 51 percent of companies anticipate that more than 60 percent of their works will be green by the end of 2015. Construction, tech industries team up to improve building efficiency

In a move to integrate green building and information technology to improve building efficiency, productivity and health, the World Green Building Council and the Global e-Sustainability Initiative (GeSI) have teamed up. The two organizations — representing the environmental interests of the building and construction sectors and the global information technology sector — have signed a memorandum of understanding to work together to combat climate change and promote sustainable development.

Designers create the 'impossible' zero-carbon house

Designers at Cardiff University say they have constructed the sort of house George Osborne once described as impossible. The chancellor scrapped a requirement for new homes to be zero carbon by 2016 because he said it would prove too expensive. But Cardiff University say they have built a house that exports more power to the grid than it uses.
