Mr. Jealous, 40, cites the effect of stress on his health, a need to spend more time with his family, and a desire to start a career in education as the reasons for his decision.

CNN's Anderson Cooper pops off about the nonprofit sector: He has a point
Anderson Cooper has had a continuing review of the reporting of Drew Griffin of the Kids Wish Network, the nation’s worst charity, as identified in the investigative series published by the Center for Investigative Reporting and the Tampa Bay Times. The Kids Wish story has gotten good coverage through the printed stories and now CNN, though CNN’s buttonholing of the CEO, Anna Lanzatella, waiting for her outside the office while her staff said she wasn’t there, was particularly revealing. Hopefully every nonprofit association out there is expressing its dismay at Kids Wish’s operations, which include spending $109 million out of $127 million raised on payments to fundraisers—including a firm related to the charity’s founder.

Drivers' $1 donation yields little for Pennsylvania organ donors and their families
Every time Pennsylvanians register a car or renew a driver's license, they have the option of giving $1 to the Gov. Robert P. Casey Memorial Organ and Tissue Donation Awareness Fund — and millions have. The fund has raised about $10 million since 2000, including about $1 million or 10 percent that a state law designated to help organ donors' families pay funeral and medical expenses.

The pulpit should be free of politics
Churches and other nonprofits long have been forbidden from endorsing political candidates. But erratic enforcement of the law has emboldened supporters of legislation in Congress that would end the restriction. Far from needing to be repealed, the ban on politics in the pulpit ought to be enforced more aggressively.

A West Virginia nonprofit has turned down a federal grant it received to help residents navigate new health insurance options under the Affordable Care Act after it received an inquiry from Attorney General Patrick Morrisey about how it would protect consumer information. Clarksburg-based West Virginia Parent Training Inc. did not respond to a letter it received from Morrisey directing it to answer 26 questions about the group’s personnel and hiring practices, including employee background checks and employee monitoring programs.

The silence of the nonprofits: Where are charities on the proposed attack on Syria?
It is hard to believe that the U.S. Congress will follow the lead of the British Parliament and deny President Obama its approval of his plan to launch a punitive missile strike on Syria. The Senate Foreign Relations Committee has already voted ten to seven to recommend military action. The leadership of the House of Representatives, normally opposed to nearly anything from President Obama, has already endorsed military action consistent with the President’s plans.

Nonprofit employment increased by almost two percent from 2007 to 2009, according to an analysis by Lester Salamon, S. Wojciech Sokolowski and Stephanie Geller of Johns Hopkins University. In the for-profit sector, in contrast, employment fell by almost four percent.
